A SUPERB AND SUPER RARE WW2 ORIGINAL SMITHS/LECOULTRE TIME OF TRIP 1954 RAF PROBABLY SPITFIRE/LANCASTER/AVRO 748 AIRCRAFT CLOCK FROM ANTIQUETIME! OFFERED FOR SALE TODAY IS THIS INCREDIBLY RARE PRE WWII 1954 RAF AIRCRAFT 8 DAY INSTRUMENT ON BOARD CHRONOGRAPH WITH TRIP TIME PROBABLY FROM THE DASHBOARD OF A SPITFIRE SUPERMARINE/LANCASTER AND LATER AVRO. THIS IS A LATER CLOCK BY SMITHS WHO WERE ONE OF THE MAIN SUPPLIERS OF MILITARY TIMEPIECES TO THE WAR OFFICE AT THIS TIME. IT HAS A STORES REFERENCE OF 6A/3157 AND IS NUMBERED 2638/54 ON THE BACK. THIS IS THE FULLY SIGNED JAEGER LECOULTRE PATENT 8 DAY MK111B CAL 330 MOVEMENT WITH LUMED HANDS AND INSET WITH AN'ELAPSED TIME' SUB DIAL AND WHITE PAINTED CHRONOGRAPH HAND.
IT HAS THE MILITARY BROAD ARROW CIPHER TO THE CASE BACK. OVERALL AESTHETIC CONDITION IS GOOD. Running but chronograph functions not working.The case has wear thru' to the front of the black top coat of paint to reveal what may be the original colour underneath. The case back is black METAL and is in excellent condition with a couple of missing screws. The dial is in good condition and is fully signed for Smiths. This is the rarer MK111B type with the 24 hour dial The hands are all present and seem to have the original lume. It has the original glass crystal which shows some light wear and tear but nothing too detrimental.
This is a FULLY signed version of the Jaeger LeCoultre patent 8 day chronograph movement fitted in nearly all Spitfires. It has the LECOULTRE mark on the bottom plate. The clock winds and sets as it should but. The time of trip and the chronograph setting do not work.
It is running very well and is keeping very good time as tested over a 12 hour period. I describe all of my items to the best of my knowledge.
